Earth Day

We live here together
sharing space,
each one of us
unspeakably beautiful,
the Earth beautiful
beyond words
under the beauty of the Sun,
the Moon, and blinking stars
We have our rhythms
and our ways of moving:
some of us stand still
others swim, still others fly,
crawl or run, or climb high,
or dig deep down
We make sounds
each one unique:
we squeek and baa, and meow, and chirp
and bark, we moo and neigh, and croak;
some of us are mute
but find their way to say something
without words, while others
use words
to speak
We breathe with oxygen or carbon dioxide
we need each other's outbreath
to breathe in
There are seasons
with their colours and peculiar weather,
days and nights
ever changing places
Love to you, Earth, on your day, love
to all the creatures for whom you are home:
to trees and herbs, grasshoppers in the grass,
flowers and weeds alike, fish in the seas,
camels on the deserts, lizards, bats
and butterflies, to elephants and bees,
hummingbirds and squirrels,
to beans and apricots,
to bears and ants
and berries
hugs to every type of landscape
on your surface,
kisses to the clouds
We're all one
holding hands and paws
and wings and fins, and tails,
and leaves, and boughs
not only for one day
We live here together

each one of us
unspeakably beautiful,

beyond words
